California

A couple of weekends ago we enjoyed a short vacation to California. My little family went, along with Kevin and my mom. We were so excited to finally be able to see my wonderful California family - my Gammy, Aunt Amy, and Hailey, along with a day trip to see my Aunty Kelly. It was so nice to see everyone! We hadn't been to California since Jonah was 11 months old, so it was really fun being able to introduce my two little men to my dear family. My Gammy was so generous. She vacated her house and let our crazy group move in, prepared delicious meals (including her famous hot fudge!!), and otherwise accommodated our rambunctious family. Thank you, Gammy! Besides some annoying colds (and Jonah's first bee sting!), we had a really wonderful vacation. Here are some of the bits & pieces:

It was GREAT seeing everyone again!

The boys enjoyed playing in Gammy's yard. We blew bubbles, looked at the beautiful flowers, and enjoyed looking at all of the dogs that were being walked.

We had lots of beach time, which we loved! The boys were at such a fun stage for this. They dug with their sand shovels, loaded up their toy dump trucks, and built a sand tunnel with Kevin. We also tossed a frisbee around, and we were even treated to an LAPD helicopter circling overhead. The pilot waved to us and blipped the siren. The boys were riveted... we all were! The kids walked down to the ocean with Nolan and ran from the waves. It was so nice and relaxing.

We went on lots of walks around Gammy's neighborhood. Everett always wanted to push the stroller rather than ride in it. Nolan and I always love looking at all of the darling and unique homes that are in Gammy's neighborhood. The yards are amazingly landscaped and manicured, as well. The variety of beautiful plants & flowers was such a welcome sight to our winter-weary eyes!

We drove up the coast a little ways to Malibu area and stopped at Point Dume. This was an amazing day. One of those "gift days" that are so precious. There was such a relaxed, happy, blessed feeling about that day. We all enjoyed just being together and experiencing the best things the beach has to offer. The boys dug in the sand again, we munched on some snacks, and we enjoyed our beautiful surroundings. Everyone, except Everett and me, hiked up the cliffs to a lookout point. We felt so lucky to see lots of wildlife: dolphins, seals, and even baby gray whales spouting and surfacing just 100 feet out. It was incredible to be able to show the boys that kind of natural wonder. It was a really special day.

After we said good-bye to Gammy, Aunt Amy, Hailey, and Jonathan, we drove to meet Aunty Kelly at Traveltown. The boys loved this train park, of course! Everyone was a little tired this day, though, and I think we all felt pretty mellow. It was nice visiting with my Aunty Kelly. 'Wish we could see you all more often!

Thank you, everyone, for making our vacation so lovely. We really had a wonderful time.
